Free diabetes seminar offered by North Idaho Health Network
COEUR D’ALENE, IDAHO (October 22, 2008) – In the United States, there are nearly 24 million children and adults who have diabetes. This is 7.8% of the population. While an estimated 17.9 million have been diagnosed with diabetes, nearly one quarter of this group, or 5.7 million people are unaware that they have the disease.
The North Idaho Health Network is providing a free diabetes seminar for all people who have diabetes, have a family history of diabetes, or want to learn more about the disease on Thursday, October 30 at the Health Resource Center, Fox Auditorium of Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Certified diabetes educator, Kirsten Collins, RD, CDE, will present. The J.R. Simplot Company is sponsoring the seminar.
In addition to the nearly 24 million people living with diabetes, there is an additional 57 million Americans who have pre-diabetes; a condition that occurs when a person's blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2-diabetes. Learn more about the disease by going to www.NIHN.net and click on Healthy Directions.
