Health Care Reform: What We Believe

It seems like you can not turn on the news or pick up a paper without seeing something about health care. The national debate over the Obama administration’s health care plan has hit the boiling point. From protesters turning out in droves at town hall meetings across the country, to members of congress losing their temper when questioned about the future of healthcare in America, there is no denying the fact that people are passionate about this issue and truly care about the outcome and how it will affect them, their children, their parents, and their neighbors.

As the Trusted, Local Health Resource, North Idaho Health Network recognizes the significant impact decisions being made at our nation's capital will have on all of us living right here in the Inland Northwest. While North Idaho Health Network, or anyone else for that matter, cannot predict what the result of the great health care debate will be, North Idaho Health Network believes health care reform must address a number of major issues.

1. Provide employers, employees and their families with quality health insurance choices that are truly affordable regardless of income or employment status.

2. Be structured to function as a true system with standards and guidelines created by recognized experts and accountably managed by providers at the local level.

3. Provide patient centered care with the Medical Home model as its foundation, providing incentives for focusing on evidence-based care including health promotion.

4. Create fair provider reimbursement that is adequate to ensure growth in necessary fields as well as encourage and fund innovation.

5. Structure benefits and individual financial obligations to create incentives for healthy lifestyle choices and the utilization of cost-effective, evidence based health care services.

It is important that your voice is heard by congressional representatives playing a key role in health care reform. We would like to encourage you to take a moment and download the attached document, print it out, sign it, and send it to your congressional representative.
